Casa Calvari is a charming traditional stone house located in the alluring fishing port of L'Escala, Costa Brava, just 100 meters from the beach.
The sea-inspired interior of Casa Calvari is simple and stylish! Neutral colors, shades of blue and soft linens bring tranquility to the mostly white rooms, whereas rattan furniture, wicker lamps, pieces of driftwood, and playful shell details bring the beach inside.
The house is spread over three floors with downstairs an ensuite bedroom in a beautiful vaulted room and upstairs two more bedrooms with open ensuite bathrooms. This makes the house suitable for 6 people and is ideal for a few couples or a family with (older) children. For children up to 7 years it is not suitable, but it is for teenagers who can easily go out on their own in the village.
Upstairs you will also find a bright kitchen with a breakfast bar and a cozy living room with a comfortable sofa. This is the perfect place for a siesta! Thanks to the air conditioning and shutters, it is always cool here and you can take a rest with a good movie or documentary on Netflix or Amazon Prime. The highlight of Casa Calvari is the rooftop terrace with a plunge pool surrounded by yucca plants, and as a bonus, a magnificent view over the roofs of the city and further to the sea. Enjoy a refreshing dip here after a day at the beach or just come to enjoy the view.
The location of Casa Calvari is great. Authentic Catalan life can be found directly downstairs in the village; buy fresh bread in the morning at the bakery, enjoy a picnic on the city beach (only 100m!) or stroll through the harbor with trendy al-fresco restaurants. For a day of culture, head to Salvador Dali's birthplace in Figures or lively Girona. The coastline is, of course, beautiful and also for hiking and cycling you will find plenty of opportunities.

Casa Calvari is located in the heart of L'Escala, a small coastal town on the Costa Brava, situated between the famous towns of Cadaques (43 km) and Begur (28 km). L'Escala is beautiful, not too touristy but with a great variety of bars, restaurants, stores, and summer festivities. For example, every year between mid-July and mid-August the music and art festival, Portalblau takes place here. Of course, you will also find all your daily amenities in the village.
Tips for day trips:
Enjoy the famous turquoise-clear waters of the Costa Brava at the local beaches such as El Portixol (1.4 km | 18 minutes walk) and Cala Montgó (5 km)
Go out on the water. You can rent a boat to explore the sea coves in the area and rent paddle-boards. Diving trips are also organized from the port.
At the Anchovy and Salt Museum of L'Escala, you can learn all about the history of this old fishing village. You can find more history and culture in the Dali Museum in Figueres (27 km), the birthplace of this famous Spanish painter.
Take a morning trip to Palafrugell (30 km) or the quaint coastal towns of Palamós (38 km) or Llafranch (33 km), all boasting gorgeous beaches.
Visit the important Greco-Roman archaeological site of Empúries (3 km) or the fairytale hamlet of Sant Martí d'Empúries (4.5 km) just a few kilometers further ahead.
Take a walk in the protected Montgrí natural park (10 km).
City lovers cannot miss the medieval center of Girona (45 km). This lively university town has an old center with medieval streets and a fantastic offer of bicycle routes and trails that run to the Mediterranean coast.
A day trip to Barcelona (140 km) is also doable in one day.
Girona airport (55km) is a 45-minute drive away, while the airport of Barcelona (160km) can be reached in 1h45 minutes.
