Portimão is a popular holiday destination in the Portuguese Algarve. For an ultimate summer feeling and delicious local cuisine, this port city is the right place. From Casa no Meio you can walk to the harbour of Portimão with numerous terraces, restaurants, bars, a supermarket and nice shops in the historical centre.
Visit the Museu de Portimão (Museum of Portimão) situated on the river front in the converted 19th century sardine and mackerel canning factory. Or walk along the River Arade and enjoy the views. At the very end of the promenade - a few kilometres out of town - lies the Fortress of Santa Catarina (3.5 km), which is really worth a visit. It offers lovely views of the beautiful Rocha beach, the river and the Atlantic Ocean.
Take a boat trip to the charming fishing village of Ferragudo (6.5 km), across the town, which is characterised by small fishermen's houses, whitewashed buildings and narrow cobbled streets. Go to the town of Alvor (11 km) with numerous historical, cultural and natural resources. At the end of the village, you can take a walk (no less than 5 km) along a wooden boardwalk to the Três Irmãos beach. A picture to behold! From Alvor, you can also take boat trips along the coastline and admire the impressive cliffs and secluded beaches that pass by.
The charming old town of Lagoa (11 km) with whitewashed houses and cobbled streets is a 15-minute drive from Casa no Meio. Here you will find cosy restaurants, shops and two theatres, all amenities for a pleasant evening out. Other beautiful places on the coast are: Carvoeiro (15 km), a small seaside resort with cozy streets and nice restaurants. In the other direction, you will find Lagos (20 km), where you can take a boat trip or stroll through the historical centre.
Finally, Portimão is known by most visitors for its breathtaking sandy beaches, some beaches you should definitely visit are: Praia da Rocha (5 km), Praia dos Tres Castelos (4 km), Praia dos Careanos (5 km), and Praia de Alvor (8 km).
The nearest airport is in Faro, 68 km away (about 45 minutes drive).
