Cortijo Juan Salvador is a 200 years old, lovingly restored wine estate, which belongs to the Palacios family. Pedro, Riny and their son David, his wife Rosa and their two sons have thrown themselves into this adventure and transformed the ancient cortijo into a marvelous holiday rental. The warm and friendly family lives on the estate and they will gladly provide you with special extra services and tips about the area. David is a phenomenal chef and guests have the advantage of being able to savor the exclusive organic dishes that he prepares with passion.
On the estate, which spreads out over 6 acres of land filled with almond-, olive-, and fruit trees, you will find the huge Cortijo Juan Salvador. Divided into two apartments, it accommodates 12 persons comfortably. Apartment La Higuera has three bedrooms, 2 private terraces, a large open dining kitchen and two bathrooms with a bath. Apartment El Almendro has three bedrooms, a huge patio with a covered veranda, 2 bathrooms, kitchen and living with a fireplace.
The cortijo is surrounded by various delightful spots; a vegetable- and herb garden, a shaded hammock under an old fir tree, a plunge bath with loungers in the sun and many seating areas, where guests can appreciate the views of the vast, tranquil landscape. In short; a scenic and cozy rental, where you can enjoy the many extra’s that the Palacios family offers their guests. This is a fine home base for exploring the diversity of Andalusia. You will most likely fly at Malaga Airport in Andalucia. From here it is only 45 minutes drive inland and you reach Cortijo Juan Salvador, located in a Montes de Malaga nature reserve. The cortijo is an oasis of calm in the middle of the mountains, but within a 25-minute drive you can reach one of Malaga's city beaches or sit on a sunny terrace in the historic center of Malaga. Authentic villages, such as Comares and Colmenar, are a 30-minute drive away. From the Cortijo you can make various beautiful walks through the hills.
The nearest village is Olias (5 km). Here is a small shop (open only a few hours in the morning and evening) for basic groceries. Within a half hour drive (15 km) you will find a Carrefour in Rincon de la Victoria. Nice to combine with a walk on the beach of La Cala del Moral and Rincon de la Victoria.
A nice thing to do is to shop fresh groceries on the large market in the center of Malaga. Combine it with a visit to this pleasant city, stroll along the promenade and have a drink at one of the many terraces.
Davis cooks on request a delicious quality meal on your private terrace, but if you want to eat out there are several possibilities in one of the surrounding villages. Nice villages are Totalan, Comares, Benarmargosa, Almachar, Cuta etc. You do have to take the car, but it's worth it.
The beaches of La Cala del Moral and Rincon de la Victoria are recommended for a wonderful day at the beach. Malaga itself offers good city beaches and a visit to the (former fishing) village of Pedregalejo is a fine place for children to go. It is basically a sequence of different small beaches in succession. Also many good fish restaurants here.
Overall, you will find at Cortijo Juan Salvador peace, rest and plenty of space. At a distance of about 30 minutes you have everything; beaches, a pleasant city, charming villages and a nature park where you can make nice walks.
