Upon your arrival at El Molino Santisteban, you will be warmly welcomed by Gerard and Madeline. A couple that years ago, said goodbye to their hectic life in the Netherlands, packed up their kids and with much love and dedication, turned an old watermill into a holiday rental filled with atmosphere. Madeline will see to it that you return to a clean and crisp room every day. A delicious breakfast awaits you in the morning and upon request, a fine dinner will be cooked for you on site.

The hotel lies adjacent to an old watermill; it is a lovely, regal house with a rustic atmosphere. Six spacious rooms divided over different levels, surround a small patio. Another highlight is the vast space that surrounds the house. The lavish garden borders on a meandering stream, the swimming pool has loungers and a colorful bath house, there are plenty of terraces and seating areas, all of it framed by beautiful views over the rural landscape.

Children are more than welcome. El Molino is a voyage of discovery for smaller guests; the orchards, the river where they can build huts and rafts, the trampoline, the swing, the games and the company of other children. Outside of the holiday season, El Molino becomes a sanctuary of tranquility, the ideal base for exploring the diversity of Andalusia.

B&B El Molino Santisteban is ideally located at only a 45-minute drive from the airport of Malaga, allowing you to leave mass tourism behind and enter the authentic green hinterland of Andalusia. If you want to spend a day at the beach, you will find bustling beaches within a mere 25 minutes by car.

Near El Molino lies the Sierra de las Nieves NP. This national park is not yet well known to the public, but it possesses a wonderful natural landscape, with many well marked hiking trails. From El Molino you can walk alongside the river into the hills, toward villages like Guaro and Aloizana.

Nice activities in the area:

  • Gerard and Madeline are active hikers; they own many detailed hiking maps and can inform you about the possibilities. Just ask for a lunch package and make it into a great day trip.
  • The neigbor from across the street owns a horse riding school with well groomed horses. He organizes horseback riding trips along the river or through the orchards, varying from half an hour to half a day. Young horse riders can have a ride in the riding range.
  • At a distance of 45 minutes by car, you will reach the Ardales lake, where you can canoe and water bike.
  • The area is very suitable for bicycle rides by mountain bike or race bike. The NP has marked routes. Another pleasant outing is a trip from village to village via quiet trails and paved roads. Bicycles are for rent in the village.
  • In case you are a golf lover, there are plenty of possibilities in the vicinity; one of the best options is the Alhaurin Golf Club.
  • Real action fans can get their kicks inside the National Park. There are many caves and waterfalls that are very suitable for river descents and cave explorations.
  • Closer to the house you will marvel at the many water bird species like kingfishers, nightingales, booted eagles and vultures. A turtle family and a bunch of otters are other quaint inhabitants of the area around El Molino

Rating & Reviews

Madeline and Gerard are both very hospitable. The dinner was superb and the breakfast was fine as well. Dinner could possibly be a bit more varied. Nevertheless, we really had the feeling of being welcome. If you want to be helped, they help you, if you want to be more on your own, you can rest and relax. In addition, they are very nice to the children! Madeline could have been straight out of a starred restaurant! Actually there is nothing negative to say. Everything was neat and clean, the rooms are cleaned daily and the towels are changed daily as well. Also the WIFI worked excellent!

Beautiful location, great hospitality, nice rooms 100% recommend if you are looking for a unique vacation destination

Great hospitality in a scenic and relaxed setting in the intimacy of small-scale El Molino

From the airport of Malaga you will drive into the green hinterlands of Andalusia. Along the way you will pass several mountain villages and when you exit the village of Guaro, you will find it tucked away between trees and an ancient watermill. This has been home for Gerard, Madeline and their two children since 2009. Thanks to their personable and hospitable approach, guests will experience a care-free and pleasant holiday.

El Molino Santisteban has much to offer young- as well as older guests | with or without children.

The hotel:
The beautiful, rustic hotel has six different rooms, constructed around a traditional patio. Every room has its own distinctive style; one has a cozy open fire place, another has a private terrace which transcends into the garden, yet another has a bathroom that is fitted with a bathtub or an extra seating area| sleeping couch. Something for everyone.

The water mill:
The family lives in the water mill, which lies close to the hotel, so they are continually at the disposal of their guests, but also separated from them, so everyone can enjoy maximal privacy and freedom. Guest only have access to the dining room of the watermill. This room is used for dinner on days when the weather does not permit outdoor dining. Children can enjoy a special children menu or read a book near the open fire place on colder days.

The terraces:
The house is surrounded by several terraces. To the side of the building, romantic spots were created to enable guests to enjoy a private dinner by candle light. The garden has several seating areas, some of them with plenty of sun, while others are pleasantly shaded. The pool is surrounded by loungers and lazy armchairs. There is more than enough space for everyone to lay back and relax.

The bath house:
Next to the swimming pool is a bathhouse; a cozy space with a colorful bar, that is always open for guests to help themselves to a drink. You can have breakfast or play games at the outdoor tables with chairs. There is even a fully equipped guest kitchen, in case you wish to prepare your own meals. Madeline cooks delicious 3-course menus on request. The children usually have dinner early, so that their parents can enjoy their meals at a later hour. It is not common to eat together at one long table, but it often happens that tables are joined together for meals. Whatever you choose.

The river:
El Molino Santisteban lies along the El Rio Grande River. The tranquil sound of streaming water in the background will make you doze off, which is often a source of fun for the children. El Molino is surrounded by streams and even the patio has a fountain. Even during the dry and hot season, El Molino remains a green oasis.

The garden:
In the lush garden you will find many different shady- as well as sunny areas. There are olive- and orange orchards and the two downstairs rooms have a private terrace. The garden also has a swing and a trampoline. Several seating areas were created, so that all the guests can find their own perfect spot.

Isn't this what we all look for during our holidays? Not having to take care of anything, and all of that pampering in a scenic and casual setting and surrounded by the serenity of nature, only a short distance away from beautiful historic sites and last but not least in the wonderful Andalusian climate. A true Eldorado
