Location

Maison du Clocher is located in the charming hamlet of Sainte-Radegonde, 2.5 km from Baignes-Sainte-Radegonde where you will find all necessary shops such as supermarkets, bakery, butcher, pharmacy, gas station, medical center, as well as a market with producers two mornings a week.

At a 20-minute drive, you can find the beautiful city of Jonzac (17 km). It is known for its thermal baths and has several attractions. In addition to an imposing castle, there is a summer recreation center with a fine sandy beach and several working mills where you can learn about flour or walnut oil production.

Barbezieux (16 km) is another nice town nearby. It is known for its markets and has preserved beautiful buildings from the past, such as the 15th-century castle, which is a must-visit.

A little further away is Aubeterre-sur-Dronne (44 km), a lovely village with an attractive village square and many antique shops. At about the same distance is the artistic city of Angoulême (51km) where you can easily spend one day. Foodies can indulge themselves in the grand 19th century Marché des Halles with plenty of delicious local produce to buy and taste. The city is also the capital of old comic books, with studios and universities dedicated to this art. You will also find more than 30 gigantic cartoon murals in the city that you can discover on foot (download the App). The prettiest neighborhood is the upper town - called Le Plateau - with a maze of medieval cobbled streets and squares, lined with bars, boutiques, and bistros.

Cognac (39 km), the capital of the Cognac region is also a perfect destination for a day trip. It is the birthplace of King François I and a city with a rich history and great heritage, such as the castle of Cognac, which is open to the public. In the area, you can visit vineyards and cognac houses for a tasting of the Pineau des Charentes (an aperitif wine made from grape juice) and of course the cognac. You will also find many local products in the region such as oysters, caviar, and truffles.

The city of Bordeaux (76 km) is an hour's drive away. In addition to well-known wines, the town itself has some nice neighborhoods with charming shops, restaurants, coffee bars, and cozy squares. The largest digital art center in the world is also located here, where young and old can spend hours full of fun and learning.

Would you like to go for a day on the beach? Then choose the beaches of Royan (77km). The main beach, Plage La Grande Conche, is a wide sandy beach with many facilities and is ideal for children with various beach activities. You can also go windsurfing and sailing. Rentals and lessons are available as well. This beach is a great place to visit at any time of the year, although it can get busy in the summer months. North of Royan towards Saint-Palais-sur-Mer you will find a series of smaller sandy coves.
